MCCLUER NORTHS WINS 2011 TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP

McCluer North became the first non-Illinois school to win the Schnucks Holiday Classic with a nail-bitting 45-44 victory over Collinsville on Friday night at Vergil Fletcher Gymnasium.  McCluer led 9-5 after the first quarter and 20-14 at the half.  The Stars eventually took a 13 point lead with 5:37 to play in the third quarter after a three pointer by Galen Brown.  Collinsville would not give up as they mounted a 7-0 run to end the third quarter trailing 29-23.  After a missed free throw the Kahoks had a chance to tie the game but Jason Kusnerick missed a three pointer to tie it.  The Kahoks then fouled Bryon Ray and he converted the first of two free throws to give McCluer a 45-41 lead.  Crochrell rebounded the missed second free throw by Ray and made a half court shot at the buzzer to end the game with the Kahoks losing by one. 

EAST SIDE TAKES THIRD WITH CONVINCING WIN OVER GRANITE

No. 1 seeded East St. Louis rebounded from their semi-final loss to McCluer North early in the day by beating Granite City 61-44 for third place.  They took the lead with 5:06 to play in the first and never gave it up again.  Granite hung around in the second quarter staying within five points at half time.  The Flyers stretched their lead to double digits during the fourth quarter. DeShawn Munson had 16 of his points in the first half.  Munson finished with 22 points and 16 rebounds.  Devin Narvaez scored a team high 15 points for Granite City.    

GLENWOOD DERAILS LINCOLN FOR CONSOLATION TITLE

Chatham Glenwood hit their free throws down the stretch as they defeated Lincoln 51-44 for the Consolation Championship.  Lincoln led 8-6 after 1 quarter, but Glenwood outscored Lincoln 13-5 in the second quarter to take a 19-13 halftime lead.  The score that was tied 31-31 with 4:49 left in the game when Daniel Helm hit a free throw and then converted a layup to give the Titans the lead (34-31) for good.  Payton Allen lead the way for Glenwood with 17 points.  Lincoln got 10 points from Max Cook. 

BELLEVILLE EAST SMASHES QUINCY FOR 5TH PLACE

Belleville East wasted little time building a lead against No. 3 seeded Quincy on their way to a 57-45 win for 5th place.  Belleville East led by 27 at the half.  Quincy made a furious comeback in the second half to get within 10 points (52-42) with 1:24 to play.  Belleville East held Quincy at bay the rest of the way to preserve the win.  The Blue Devils got 21 points and 13 rebounds from Deangelo Dean.  Belleville East god 20 points from Tim Goodwin. 

DECATUR EISENHOWER DEFEATS DUNLAP

In a game that featured eight ties and eight lead changes Decatur Eisenhower hung on for a 44-40 victory over Dunlap in the 5th place consolation game.  Dunlap lead the game with 1:27 to play in the 3rd quarter on a jumper by Sam VanDenAvond.  Dunlap would not regain the lead the rest of the game.  The game was tied when Eugene Smith from Eisenhower made a basket to give the Panthers the lead for good.  Eisenhower got 14 points from Jalen Robinson.  VanDenAvond finished with 12 points and 17 rebounds. 

COLLINSVILLE TAKES DOWN GRANITE MOVES INTO FINALS

The Kahoks started the game on a 8-0 run and never looked back as they downed the Granite City Warriors to advance to the Finals tonight at 8 p.m. against McCluer North.  Collinsville had its biggest lead of the night in the second quarter when they lead 20-5.  Granite got within six points early in the third quarter but could not get any closer.  Daryn Foster led the Kahoks with 12 points and 11 rebounds.  The Warriors did not have any scorers finish in double digit scoring. 

MCCLUER NORTH ADVANCES TO CHAMPIONSHIP, LINCOLN TO CONSOLATION

McCluer North Stars moved on to the championship game with a 63-57 win over the East St. Louis Flyers. Jordan Granger put in 19 points and had 15 rebound for the Stars. Deshawn Munson had 26 points and 16 rebounds for the Flyers. In the auxiliary gym, Lincoln defeated Plainfield South 55-45 to moved to the consolation championship.

QUINCY COMES BACK OVER URBANA, EISENHOWER BATTLES PAST MACARTHUR IN OT

Deangelo Dean pounded out 34 points and the Quincy Blue Devils over came a 14 point halftime deficit to beat the Urbana Tigers 62-59. The Tigers had no answers for Dean as he also pulled in 13 rebounds. The Tigers only put in seven fourth quarter points. In the auxiliary gym the battle of Decatur took place and the Eisenhower Panthers over took the MacArthur General 45-39 in overtime. Deshawn Davis lead Eisenhower in scoring with 11 points and nine rebounds. Generals leading scorer was Nathan Allyn with 11 points.

BELLEVILLLE EAST MOVES TO FIFTH PLACE GAME, DUNLAP OVER OAKVILLE

Belleville East rebounded from their second round loss with a 66-55 win over the Springfield Southeast. Malcolm Hill put in 29 points for the Lancers. Chris Davis lead Southeast in scoring with 17 points. In the auxiliary gym, Dunlap knocked off Oakville 55-49. Nathan Gosnell lead the Eagles in scoring with 21 points in the game.
