COLLEGE VISITS/MILITARY DAY
Seniors who find it necessary to visit a college, vocational/technical School, or military facility of their choice may be granted two days for this purpose in accordance with guidelines set by the Principal. A visitation request must be signed by a parent and submitted to the Guidance Counselor not less than two days prior to the date of visitation. An unexcused absence will be recorded without the proper approval. Students are encouraged to set up visitation dates on Saturday or when school is not in session. No visitation days will be approved after May 1 unless specifically requested by a post-secondary school. Additional visitation days can be granted only with prior approval from the principal. The additional days will be counted as excused absences under the seven/ten day absence policy. Forms are available in the Guidance Office.
TESTS

TEST): This test is required for all students who wish to be considered for a National
Merit Scholarship. A very high test score is required to become a semifinalist. This is
also the test African-American students must take to compete for scholarships from the
National Achievement Program for Outstanding African American Students. The PSAT/NMSQT is
a multiple-choice test that measures verbal and mathematical reasoning ability important
for success in college. It is recommended that this test be taken in the junior year. This
test is not required for college admission. Registration is done by the student in the
guidance office. Watch the announcements for sign up dates. The cost is
$17.00.
PLAN: Collinsville High School is pleased to offer American College Testing Programs PLAN Test to all sophomores at no charge. PLAN is the tenth grade test that gives students a forecast of how they might perform on the ACT Assessment, which is taken in the junior year and is taken for college admission purposes. This test is given in the fall.
PLAN consists of four academic tests: English, Math, Reading, and Science Reasoning. In addition to gauging academic achievement, PLAN provides information for educational and career planning. A more detailed description can be found at the ACT website www.act.org.
