About the Teacher!

Educational background	BS in Elementary Education, MS+ in Elementary Education
Teaching experience	After graduating from high school I got married, and my dream of becoming a teacher was put on hold for 11 years. I started college at age 29 when my son started 1st grade. I graduated with my Bachelor's 6 years later. I worked as a substitute teacher for 3 years, then taught in a parochial school for three years (Kindergarten, 4th grade, and 5th.) My first job in Collinsville Unit 10 was teaching 6th grade at Caseyville School. I taught 5th grade at Hollywood Heights for 10 years. This is our 7th year at Dorris and I believe we have an exceptional school, staff, and leadership here.
What I enjoy most about teaching	I love almost everything about teaching! I love the fact that each day is different than the day before, and each hour of the day varies from the next. I thoroughly enjoy being with my 5th graders; they are capable and independent enough to accomplish some exciting tasks, yet haven't developed the "attitude" that comes soon after. I enjoy the challenge of creating learning experiences that are meaningful and engaging. I love learning new things, and I always learn with the kids and from them.
