Visit from Premiere
Martial Arts Academy
Collinsville
Middle School students enjoyed the experience of
participating in an engaging Martial Arts mini-unit provided
by Premiere Martial Arts Academy. Master instructor Tom
Whitticker took the students through a series of martial
arts maneuvers and then offered each CMS student a 30-day
free trial offer and free uniform at his Main street
location in Collinsville.
Recent visit by the
Treehouse Wildlife Center
The
Treehouse Center recently visited Collinsville Middle
School. Pam, a Treehouse educator, brought five different
owls to show the students as she explained more about them.
Students were able to discover and learn about the barred
owl, the barn owl, the short-eared owl, the screech owl, and
the great horned owl. Students in several classes were able
to participate in this wonderful educational opportunity.
Students and staff also received their own picture taken
with Cappuccino, the barn owl, thanks to Eric Blokemker.
Ms.
Pride reminds us that it is up to all of us to help children
learn about the beautiful animals and trees that we are so
fortunate to enjoy! It was a
great time for all “whooo” attended!

Lunch on the Positive
Patio

Students at Collinsville Middle School
(CMS) were recently treated to lunch on our Positive
Patio. This feature is a new project that was added to the
Character Education programs offered at CMS. In order to
qualify for lunch on the “Positive Patio”, students must
complete one workstation within one month on an enlarged
game board called the “Trait Trail”. The “Trait Trail”
(located in the CMS Media Center is comprised of various
workstations representing each character trait. Students
utilize non-class time to complete a packet of material
about famous historical figures who exemplified good
character. Students completing one workstation each month
are invited to dine on the Positive Patio topped off with an
ice cream treat for dessert. Media Specialist, Mr. Michael
Hayman, coordinates the “Trait Trail”. The Character
Education Committee is under the leadership of Mr. Todd
Pettit, Assistant Principal. |
