FUND RAISING WITH THE CHS BAND PARENTS ASSOCIATION
Attn: Band, Color Guard, and Winter Guard Parent or Guardian
During the year the band has several opportunities for fund raising both for the general fund and your student’s individual account. We would like to present some of these upcoming opportunities. Parent involvement is vital to their success. During the year, opportunities will be given to chair or sign up for any one of these fund raisers.
Every student in the band, color guard, and winter guard can have an individual student account set up in their name through the band. Any monies in this account can be used for band obligations such as fees, band trips, or anything else that relates to band such as an instrument (to be approved by Mrs. G.) or a Kahok letter jacket.
Our general fund is used to help pay for band trips, pay clinicians that help Mrs. G. and Miss Fuhr with the different bands, color guard, winter guard, refreshments served at concerts, parties for the students, awards, and anything outside of the usual expenses. A budget for 2005-2006 is available for further information on what the band parents’ general fund will cover. The more money available in the general fund, the less “out of pocket” expenses students incur.
Student Accounts
1. Entertainment Coupon Books
We begin selling the Entertainment Coupon Books during Marching Band Camp in August. Our organization is one of the first in the area to do this. All students who are not in marching band will get theirs when school starts unless other arrangements are made. Last year each student made $8 per book. There is no limit to the number of books a student can sell. The more books we sell the more money the students make per book.
2. Tag Days
Tag days are usually the weekend before Easter. Each student is dressed in a marching band or color guard uniform depending on what they do. Students stand at various businesses throughout Collinsville, Maryville, and Caseyville with cans to collect money. This past year students averaged about $11 an hour. Again all the money each student received went into their account. We are always looking for new businesses that will allow the students to solicit funds outside their door. If you know of any, let us know.
Student Accounts and General Fund
1. Baseball games
Working the concession stand at the Cardinal baseball games brings in money to both the student account and the general fund. The money received for the month is divided up by the games worked and the people who worked them. One half of an individuals share goes into the general fund and one half goes into the individual student’s account. You can have as many people working for your student as long as they are over 21 and go through the necessary training.
2. Edward Jones Dome
Like the Cardinal games, working the Rams game and other events at the Jones Dome bring in money for the student account and the general fund. It is divided the same way. Anyone can work for your student’s account as long as they are over 21 and go through the mandatory training. Six dates are set for this year.
3. Trivia Night
The first Trivia Night continues to be a big success and can only grow bigger. Parents and students help with this event. Students received $1 for every ticket sold.
4. Golf Tournament
New for the band this year is a golf tournament. More information will be coming on this opportunity to earn money for your student’s account as well as the band.
General Fund
1. Spaghetti Dinner and Silent Auction
The spaghetti dinner and silent auction are held the same day in February. This is a major source of income for the band. Tickets are sold by the students and at the door. Different restaurants are contacted and asked to contribute food and paper products. Businesses along with band and color guard parents and students contribute to the silent auction. Last year’s spaghetti dinner and silent auction raised nearly $10,000.
3. 2nd Chance Raffle
The 2nd Chance Raffle began in May of 2004. This is a one-time a month opportunity on rotating Thursdays for the band parents association to make an estimated $1,000 each month working with Tribout Distributors and the American Legion in hosting a raffle (also known as BINGO). Workers must be 18 or older. We also host a bake sale during the raffle.
4. Concession Stands at Football and Soccer games
The band parents have been running the concession stand at the home football and soccer games for some years now which brings in roughly $5,000 a year. Ten people are needed to for football games and six are need for soccer games. This can be both parents and students (when they are not performing at a game).
5. Concert Ticket Sales
Every year you have the opportunity to purchase a season ticket for a reduced rate for all the concerts performed by the CHS Bands, Color Guard and Winter Guard. Admission is charged at the door for non-season ticket holders. We would like to see ticket sales bring in $3,000 for the next year.
6. Concession Stand at Solo and Ensemble Contest
Starting out small, this fund raiser has some potential. Food is sold to the students who attend the Solo and Ensemble Contest in March. (The schedule is worked around your student’s performance.)
7. Poinsettias
Poinsettias are sold at Christmas time.
8. Music, Memories and More Book
A book filled with pictures of the band and advertisements from businesses. Monies made after costs go to the general fund.
11. Sales
Examples of direct selling are the Zap-a-Snacks, Cheese and Sausage, Christmas catalogue, etc.
12. Other
Throughout the year there are other opportunities for raising money. We welcome proposals for different fundraisers. Each opportunity is carefully scrutinized by the executive board as to what would have the most value to the band and students. If they decide it is feasible they will then bring it to the band parents for approval.
**If at any time you have questions about a specific fund raiser or would like to propose a fund raiser contact Lori de Carvalho, 2nd VP in charge of fundraising (346-0797 , or e-mail: Lori@mecf.net) or an exeuctive board member.
